RANI RATNAVATI GIRLS SCHOOL MURALS

It was a privilege for me to paint the classroom of the seventh standard of Rani Ratnavati Girls’ School in Jaisalmer. I am deeply grateful to Start India Foundation for giving me this opportunity to be part of such prestigious project. Each classroom was interpreted by a different artist, thoughtfully designed to resonate with the mindset of the age of the students of that class. I was given the seventh standard to paint the wall mural.

The central idea behind my wall mural was to open their horizons and look beyond their immediate surroundings. My idea was to dream and explore the world where the dreams can be possible in real life. I visualised a young student from the seventh standard, seen from the back. She was invited by a local Autodriver to embark on a magical journey across the globe.

I have woven important monuments across the world to show the different parts of the world. What made this experience very special for me were the interactions with the kids of the school. As I was painting the wall mural, the students would often walk in, greet me and eagerly asks questions about the different places of the monuments of the wall mural. A few of them were even surprised to know that how art itself could be a career option. It made me reflect deeply that how different our worlds are. There was a beautiful contrast in experiences, yet the classroom could give us a common space through imagination, creativity and a big dream for the future.

The wall murals came to life in 7 days time. The children were very happy to look at their newly decked up classrooms. I remain thankful to StartIndia Foundation for trusting me with this opportunity.
